Merit scholarships - terms & conditions

TERMS & CONDITIONS:

  1. The Merit Scholarship is awarded to any London Metropolitan University international fee paying student studying a bachelor degreee programme, and who achieves an average of 70% or more in an academic year.  The amount is £1000.

  2. International fee paying students who began their course at the sememster 2 start point (e.g. February) and who undertook a full time programme of study will be entitled to a scholarship of £500.

  3. International fee paying stuents able to study on a part time basis would receive a scholarship on a pro-rata basis depending on how many 15 credit modules they had studied.  (For example, a student taking 3 modules would get a scholarship of £375)

  4. Marks will be rounded to the nearest full figure, so an average mark of 69.5% would qualify but 69.4% would not.

  5. To be included in the calculation a module will be counted if it is recorded on the university's student records system for the academic year. 

    • ALL modules recorded will be included in the calculation. 
    • Credits  awarded, as the consequence of previous study or prior experience will not be included in the calculation. 
    • The calculation will be based on the FIRST take of a module only.

  6. International fee paying undergraduate students will only receive the full £1000 scholarship if they are enrolling and paying the full time fees for their programme in 2009/10.  This means that they would be studying 7 or 8 modules in the 2009/10 academic year.

    • An international fee paying student enrolling for one semester only as a full time student would receive a scholarship of £500.  
    • A student registering for an agreed part time programme would receive a scholarship of £125 per 15 credit module registered.

  7. International fee paying students on a placement of language year in 2008/9 will be entitled to the scholarship in 2009/10. 

    • Students enrolling and paying for a part time programme will be entitled to a pro-rata scholarship dependent on the fees being paid. 
      (For example a student enrolling for, and paying for, 4 modules would receive a £500 scholarship.)

TERMS & CONDITIONS THAT APPLY TO ALL STUDENTS:

  1. Students who receive the scholarship are still entitled to a discount for early payment for their fees.  (The discount will be applied to the net fee of the scholarship not the original fee.)

  2. International fee paying students in receipt of the scholarship would only be entitled to claim an early payment dicounts.  They would not be entitled to any other discount of scholarship offered by the university.

  3. The awared of a Merit Scholarship takes the form of a reduction of tuition fee payable, it is not a cash award.

  4. The scholarship only applies where a student is continuing on, or starting a new bachelor degree programme.  It cannot be used to offset tuition fees on a Masters programme.

  5. In the event of a dispute about eligibility for the scholarship the decision of the Director of Academic Administration or his nominee is final.

  6. The University reserves the right to discontinue or amend the scheme in future years.
