Archikids comes to The Cass

Central House is the latest venue for London's annual architecture festival for families.

On 23 July, The Cass will host two interactive sessions for Archikids Festival, Open-City's flagship family festival of architecture.

The annual festival offers a weekend programme of over 30 free architectural activities located in the City of London’s Square Mile, aimed to inspire the next generation of Londoners to explore the great places in their city.

Two activities are taking place at The Cass on Saturday. At Light Box Magic (12-5pm), families are invited to create and add to a handmade light box. Using water bottles, food dye and natural sunlight, children will be encouraged to create their own light show and learn about reflection. The Faculty will also be one of the venues involved in Scale Up! (12-5pm). Using the city skyline, families will be invited to complete an eye spy activity, spotting London’s iconic architecture from above, learning about the actual size of objects with scale and creating replicas of key London buildings.

Now in its fourth year, Archikids was established by Open-City, based on the belief that the best way to understand good design is to engage first hand with the buildings and places of the city. Developing Open-City's successful public engagement programme Open House London towards the next generation, Archikids Festival hosts a variety of engaging activities – tours, workshops, exploration trails and competitions – directly in the inspiring spaces of the city.

You can find out more about what's happening at Archikids this weekend on the festival's A-Z of activities and get a taste of what the festival is like by watching the video from last year.
