The Universities Business Challenge bring it on

BA Business Management students reach the semi-finals of The Universities Business Challenge.

Date: 21/12/2015

We end the first semester here at Guildhall on a high, we would like to congratulate a team of BA Business Management students on reaching the semi-finals of The Universities Business Challenge.

The Universities Business Challenge Worldwide is the world’s longest established and leading undergraduate simulation-based competition designed to develop employability and enterprise skills. It is supported by the UK’s leading universities and graduate employers.

Well done to Ivett Kaufman, Bahamin Moayedi, Renata Ayuto, Domantas Mocevicius and Simas Janusas. The students could not have done this without their mentor Syed Naqavi.

The Universities Business Challenge is a great opportunity for students to put their academic learning into real–life practice. Our teams had to compete against teams from other universities. Students needed to demonstrate that they had a good understand of detailed financial data, were able to assess intricate market research reports and could plan future production capacities. Not only did our students show they had the business acumen to succeed but they also demonstrated they were strategic thinkers.

Syed said “as a mentor my role is to support and guide the students mainly by posing questions that get the team to reflect on their decisions from the previous round.  I them explore the consequences of the decisions that they are about to make and try and highlight areas they may have not thought about. However, they must make the final decisions.”

Our students benefit from the Business Simulation that is incorporated into the Business Management Curriculum. London Metropolitan University is one of the only universities in the country to have a Business Simulation at each level of Business Management degree. The credit for the above should go to Ann Kennedy, Joe Simmons and Adrian Murton, who all understood the pedagogic value of the Business Simulation.

Good Luck to our teams of students in 2016!
