Research

The facilties and expertise of the Centre are much in demand by the polymer industry for joint research and consultancy work. Collaboration includes long term research programmes suitable for higher degree enrolement carried out by full or part time research students, short term trouble shooting or test work, or simply the offering of professional advice and guidance. The Centre remains committed to research and continually strives to broaden its research base. New areas of research have been embraced including investigations into nanocomposites and recycling of plastics.

Areas or interest include rubber technology, mechanical properties of polymers, composite properties, films and various aspects of structure and property studies during polymer processing. Current research programmes include investigation into the processing capabilities and properties of nanocomposites, recycling PET bottles, the processing behaviour of rubber and thermoplastic elastomers, the structure property relationships of vacuum formed thermoplastic materials, investigation of the properties of extruded blown films.

Most research projects are funded by the polymer industry but support is also provided by the EPSRC, Royal Society and other funding agents. Further information, admission requirements and downloadable application forms for post graduate research can be found on the University's Research pages.
