Undergraduate Courses
The GIR section at City campus has 17 full-time staff, as well as a number of part-time lecturers. Most GIR staff have national or international reputations in their subject areas. In the most recent national teaching assessment exercise, the section was awarded an ‘excellent’ rating, the highest achievable. We pride ourselves on our teaching and research expertise. Our aim is to focus our expertise into providing you with the best possible teaching and learning experience.Governance and International Relations offers an expanding group of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. We use innovative teaching and learning methods, draw on a breadth of research expertise, and bridge traditional academic boundaries. GIR currently offers seven undergraduate courses at City Campus:

BA Asia Pacific Studies is available only as Joint course.
BA Governance & Law Politics, BA International Development, BA International Law & International Politics, BA International Relations, BA Peace and Conflict Studies, BA Politics can be taken on either a Single Honours or Joint basis.

BA Asia Pacific Studies is a Joint degree course focused on the politics, economics and international relations of this dynamic region. Language modules are available and students can take semesters at Asian universities. Graduates with specialist knowledge of Asia are highly sought after in finance and government and the University’s City location is ideal for engaging with both.

BA Governance and Law is an innovative degree integrating the Department’s two main strands of law and governance. It is designed to examine the changing roles of law and governance in an increasingly globalised modern world. The degree will help students to study and contribute to the fields of human rights, environmental change, international crime and terrorism.

BA International Development is a multidisciplinary course focusing on the issues of development in an interdependent world. A wide option range allows you to become expert in development issues in the developing world. Many of our graduates go on to work professionally in the fields of development and aid.

BA International Law and International Politics draws on the disciplines of Law, Politics and International Relations. It is a new degree, in only its third year, and students are helping to shape the programme. The degree helps students to develop an understanding of the complex relations between law, states and peoples, at both domestic and international levels.

BA International Relations is a challenging course that develops the knowledge and skills needed for real world careers in international relations. A wide range of options allows you to develop your own range of interests. Placement with international organisations and study abroad are both possible. Graduates are employed in diplomacy, the European Union and United Nations, media, NGO and business organisations.

BA Peace and Conflict Studies combines the subjects of international relations, politics, political economy and law. It is designed to better understand causes of war and the challenges of making peace and analyses how international organisations are working to bring about and maintain peace.

BA Politics gives you the chance to develop expertise in British, European, and international politics. It allows you to explore the interface between politics, society, and the state. In your final year of study - Honours level - you can undertake a placement in a political organisation. Our graduates include prominent people in various fields, including: journalism and members of parliament.
