Professor Robert McKeever

Dean of the Fauclty of 
Law Governance and International Relations

Professor Bob McKeever joined London Metropolitan in 2006 from Reading University, where he was Head of the School of Sociology, Politics and International Relations. His academic interests are in the politics of the United States, especially the United States Supreme Court and constitutional rights.

He is the author of two books on the Supreme Court:

  • Raw Judicial Power? The Supreme Court and American Society (1995) and
  • The United States Supreme Court: A Political and Legal Analysis (1997.

He has also published numerous articles in both politics and law journals, as well as contributing many chapters to edited works. Recent work includes an analysis of the juvenile death penalty in the US (Kings College Law Journal, 2006); an analysis of presidential strategies in making Supreme Court appointments (in Edwards and Davies, New Challenges for the American Presidency, 2004); and an essay on George W. Bush’s approach to constitutional liberties and the Supreme Court (in Morgan and Davies’ Right On? Political Change and Continuity in George W. Bush’s America, 2006). He is the lead author (with Philip Davies) of a major textbook on American Politics, Politics USA (Pearson, 2nd edition, 2006). Current projects include an article on the Supreme Court’s cases dealing with Guantanamo Bay detainees, a comparative essay on abortion policy and implementation in the US and Canada and a third edition of Politics USA.

As Dean of the Faulty of Law, Governance and International Relations, Professor McKeever is dedicated to excellence in teaching and research and the belief that education can transform the lives of individuals and communities. Managing the largest Faculty of its kind in the United Kingdom is a stimulating and rewarding challenge, as witnessed by the smiling faces of hundreds of graduates at the Degree Ceremony in the Barbican Centre each year and the innovative research being done by so many fine colleagues.
