MA Public Services Management
This course is aimed at public
service practitioners and those intending to enter the public services. It is open to students from a wide range of
backgrounds and examines public services including education, health and housing
as well as core functions such as performance management, policy analysis and
scrutiny. It aims to develop students’
skills in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of policies and the
management of public services. It does
so with three core modules and a choice of two modules dealing with
evaluation.
- Public Service Strategy and Policy enables students to conduct an appraisal of the environment of a public service organisation and then to examine the implications of change management.
- Managing Public Services looks at how the task of managing services has changed over recent years and looks at current trends in the management of services.
- Social Research gives students work related research skills which are also important for the dissertation.
Students can choose one of two modules covering evaluation which is increasingly important in the public services. In addition, students take two option modules from the University’s postgraduate programme. Each student has a supervisor for the Dissertation which can cover any topic related to public services management.
