MA Public Administration (International)
A course for those seeking to occupy high positions in government or the non-state sector and to improve ‘governance’ and public services. The course focuses on global and international trends in public administration. It includes both theoretical issues and the development of the higher level skills needed by policy managers. Modules deal with
- change management,
- comparative policy studies,
- research methods, and
- public sector management.
Options are available from other disciplines, including human resources management and law.
- A particularly attractive feature of the course is an optional 40 day internship/work placement with UK government bodies in London, or with non-governmental bodies.
- Students may complete a dissertation either in the UK or in their home countries.
- Dissertations are usually comparative in method or international in scope.
Many students have been supported by their own national governments, the development banks, and UK government grant schemes such as the Chevening scholarship scheme. Members of the staff team have worked extensively on administrative reform projects in central and Eastern Europe, and bring a wealth of practical experience to the course.
