MA Human Rights and Social Justice

The MA in Human Rights and Social Justice provides a critical overview of the philosophical, political, legal and moral theory, history and practice related to UK and international human rights issues. Students learn how concepts of social justice and human and civil rights are applied in the legal and political arrangements and social policies of the UK, the EU, and globally. Students may choose to study how human rights and social justice relate to a range of issues, including refugees, womens' rights, trade unionism, criminal justice, health policy, European citizenship, international relations, and child law.

The course includes research training and a dissertation, in which students can study a relevant subject in depth. It aims to be academically rigorous, and teaching on the course is informed by research within no less than three research institutions: the Human Rights and Social Justice Research Institute, the European Human Rights Advocacy Centre (EHRAC), and the Centre for Contemporary Aristotelian Studies in Ethics and Politics (CASEP).
