The Centre for Family Law and Practice was set up in January 2009 to facilitate the interface between academe and practice in the broad area of Family Law and associated topic areas.

 

 

 

 

 

 


  • Forced Marriage Seminar - Monday 19th April 2010

  • Newly appointed High Court Judge, Mr Justice Baker (formerly Jonathan Baker QC, one of the counsel in Re I,) has kindly agreed to join the Editorial Board of the Centre’s Journal, of which a first online issue may be expected at Easter 2010. See the Online Journal tab for further details.

  • Supreme Court Judgment delivered 1st December 2009 - I (A Child)

    Judgment delivered today, 1st December 2009, on I (A Child) [2009] UKSC 10, the first Family Law case to reach the new Supreme Court, in which The Centre for Family Law and Practice (CFLP) was an intervenor. The Supreme Court has found that Article 12 Brussels 11 Revised applies to a child who is lawfully resident outside the EU. Read more...

  • Marilyn Freeman was one of the small team of counsel representing reunite International Child Abduction Centre, in an intervention in an important case in the United States Supreme Court  (Abbott v Abbott) regarding the meaning of rights of custody in cases of international child abduction. The case is due to be heard at the beginning of 2010. Again, more information will be provided when available.

  • We are delighted to announce that 4 Paper Buildings, the Family Law set of chambers at which Marilyn Freeman is Door Tenant, was awarded the Chambers and Partners 2009 Family Set of the Year Award at the fifth annual Chambers Bar Awards which were held on Thursday, 1st October 2009.
  • The reunite Relocation Research, conducted by Marilyn Freeman on behalf of reunite and The Ministry of Justice, was launched and published on 7th July 2009. The report may be viewed on www.reunite.org
