A Guide to working with still and moving images in teaching

Do you use Powerpoint or Weblearn (Blackboard) in your teaching practice?

Would you like to learn more about using images?

This course will enable lecturers and teachers to make full use of the digital imaging and video programmes available in their schools, colleges and universities, teaching basic practical skills and helping participants to gain confidence in using digital technology to develop materials.

Session one: Tuesday 17 May 18.00-21.00

  • Uses of digital images in the educational context: a brief illustrated overview from tutor;

  • Feedback from learners about their various working contexts and how they want to use these skills;

  • Introductory practical digital imaging exercise using Photoshop;

  • An overview of Photoshop interface, basic file management in Photoshop, how to import images, scanning & resolution

Session two: Tuesday 24 May 18.00-21.00

  • Practical digital imaging/collage exercises to construct teaching materials for embedding into web/slide shows;

  • Learners will be able to use their own images for these exercises if they wish to do so;

  • Work will be shown and discussed at key points during session;

  • Tutor will work individually with learners during lab exercises to offer instruction and support Moving images: an overview of working with file formats, by tutor using illustrations;

  • Practical advice on file management &  inputting video material on to PC and Mac with Q&A;

  • Embedding material into Powerpoint and Weblearn

  • Discussion of course & evaluation
