Undergraduate Courses

London Metropolitan University is one of the largest providers of undergraduate full-time and part-time education courses in the UK .

BEd Early Years Teaching

The course aims to prepare students for teaching in the Early Years. There is a particular focus on learning and teaching in multilingual, multicultural, urban settings.

FDA Early Childhood Studies (Sure Start Early Years Sector Endorsed)

This practical and challenging course aims to increase your professional competence in working with young children, including an awareness of anti-discriminatory practice. It also provides you with opportunities to progress to further qualifications and advanced career opportunities in this sector.

BA(Hons) Education International

This course is for students who already have a Certificate or Diploma in education from overseas, as well as some teaching experience. It offers opportunities for further studies in relation to the early years and/or primary age range (3-11).

BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies

This vocational part-time course equips you to reflect on your practice, to act as an advocate for the rights of young children and helps you understand the importance of issues of equality and diversity and their impact on young children. Designed for those who work, or want to work with young children, the course includes children's development, legal and educational studies, behavioural studies and a range of options.

BA(Hons) Education Studies

This focused course, which can be taken either full-time or part-time, provides a general introduction to the primary school curriculum, specific features of the secondary and further education curriculum, sociological and cultural approaches to the study of education, the history of education and current educational policy issues. Many students progress from this degree to a PGCE.

BA (Hons) Music Education with QTS

This is a two year, full-time, professional course within the Secondary Initial Teacher Education scheme. The course leads to recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status for Key Stages 3 and 4 (11 — 16). Some training in post-16 teaching is also covered on the course. All courses in the Secondary Initial Teacher Education scheme have a special interest in preparation for teaching in urban, multilingual contexts.

Registered Teaching Programme (RTP)

The Registered Teacher Programme (RTP) provides a blend of work-based teacher training and academic study, allowing non-graduates with some experience of higher education to complete their degree and qualify as a teacher at the same time.

At the university there are two pathways that Trainees can choose from: The RTP Primary and the RTP Early Years. All Trainees work in their school or other agreed workplace throughout their training programme. During each semester, they spend three to four days per week in the workplace and spend one day per week studying at the University, or other designated venue.
