The majority of our research in education was judged to be of national excellence in the latest Research Assessment Exercise. Many staff are actively involved in research, and we have a thriving Masters programme.
The subject area is closely linked with the work of two Research Institutes from within the University: The Institute for Policy Studies in Education (IPSE) and the Learning Technology Research Institute (LTRI).
IPSE incorporates a range of activities including projects on teacher supply and retention (in partnership with 22 local education authorities); a trans-European network on children's identity and citizenship; and IMPACT an internationally renowned project seeking to promote and support home-school links in numeracy and literacy.
The LTRI conducts research into the application of information and communication technologies to augment, support and transform learning.
Both institutes hold regular seminar series within the University and have built up international networks with scholars working in the fields of education and educational technolgoy.
