Want to learn more about Cities, Regeneration and Housing ?

Regeneration and Housing are dynamic and rapidly changing policy areas - high on the government's agenda - and at LMU, with major regeneration projects and housing need on our doorstep, we offer a range of exciting courses.

Postgraduate Courses

MA City Regeneration

In London there are a large number of major regeneration projects taking place - Thames Gateway and the Olympics at Stratford and the wider Lower Lea Valley in the east to Kings Cross and Paddington Basin in the west of the capital - as well as a host of other regeneration initiatives across every London borough. And yet, while regeneration and sustainable communities are at the heart of Government policy for our cities - there is increasing concern that the skills are not available to deliver them. LMU - at the heart of many of these regeneration projects - can help you develop the range of skills necessary to work in regeneration.

Our MA City Regeneration offers a combination of theory, policy and practical skills with 4 core modules in city theory, regeneration and economic development policy, community development and research methods - and options in sustainable communities, housing, health, project management, GIS and cultural and creative industry-led regeneration.

MA Housing and Inclusion

Housing is at a time of significant change. A new government is changing the housing landscape, and introducing many social policies that will affect housing. Central controls on social landlords have been dismantled; the benefit regime is being radically changed; and many social housing tenancies will be short term and more expensive. Young people find it difficult to become home owners. The job market is a challenging one. But it has never been more important for organisations to have well-qualified, skilled staff to respond to these changes. This course will provide key transferable skills for those who want to work in housing, or boost their careers. The course comprises 6 core modules: Housing Law, Finance and Management; Housing Strategy; Urban Policy; Understanding Cities; Researching Communities; and Community Development. In addition you will complete a dissertation in your area of interest.

On successful completion of the course, you will only need to complete one distance learning module to gain full membership of the Chartered Institute of Housing.

Undergraduate Courses

Foundation Degree in Community Work

This new course is designed for students who are already in community-related work, whether paid or unpaid. You could be working for a community organisation, or active in voluntary work. The course addresses the role of community activity in challenging inequality and discrimination, and blends academic and work-based skills. The full-time degree takes two years, and is taught on one day and one evening per week. Employability skills are developed throughout the programme. With a new government promoting the ‘Big Society’, the course offers opportunities for students who want to work in a growing area, or those who wish to further develop their careers. The course fees are set significantly below those for honours degrees- but you need only to complete one more year of study to gain the BSc (hons) Community Development and Leadership.

For an informal discussion contact the course leader Patrick Mulrenan at p.mulrenan@londonmet.ac.uk
