Career summary

Before going into education and research John had twenty –five years experience in the voluntary sector, trade union movement and Director level posts in the NHS and local government.

Teaching activities

John leads the Masters in Organisation and Community Development and teaches modules on social policy and research /pgprospectus/courses/organisation-and-community-development.cfm.

He is particularly interested in developing practitioners’ reflective practice, capacity to contribute to policy-making, participation of users and the public in decision-making, equalities and human rights.

Research interests

John runs a not-for-profit research company http://www.ppre.org.uk/  and also works with associates on a programme called Neighbourhood Knowledge Management   http://nkm.org.uk

Other academic activities

John is also Senior Lecturer in Public Health and Primary Care at City University’s School of Community and Health Sciences. He also teaches and writes about social history.
