Professor Philip Leach shortlisted for the 2010 JUSTICE Human Rights Lawyer of the Year

Professor Philip Leach was recently shortlisted for JUSTICE's Human Rights Lawyer of the Year award, which is held each December to commemorate Human Rights Day. Professor Leach was nominated for his ‘sustained and selfless work across the field of human rights’. The citation added: ‘He has informed the public debate, litigated cases at the highest level and contributed substantially to the academic literature on topics of immediate concern’. The JUSTICE Human Rights Awards aim to recognise the outstanding contribution made by individuals and organisations to further the cause of human rights.
The 2010 Awards were presented by Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, the Chair of JUSTICE’s Council, in a ceremony hosted by Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP on 9 December 2010.
Philip Leach is Professor of Human Rights, a solicitor, and Director of the Human Rights and Social Justice Research Institute (HRSJ) (www.londonmet.ac.uk/hrsj) - part of the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences at London Metropolitan University. He is also Director of the European Human Rights Advocacy Centre (EHRAC) which advises and assists Russian, Georgian and Azerbaijani lawyers and NGOs in litigating before the European Court of Human Rights (www.londonmet.ac.uk/ehrac).
