How does the EYPS course work?
There are four ways to gain the status, depending on how far an individual meets the entry requirements.
The three-month part-time validation pathway.
If you have met all the entry requirements, are very experienced, and are close to being able to demonstrate that you meet the EYP Standards, you may be able to proceed directly to this pathway. The focus of the validation pathway is on the ‘validation’ of evidence of your existing attributes, knowledge, understanding and skills, rather than on gaining new knowledge, skills and experience.
The six-month part-time extended professional development pathway including 6½ days validation over three months (Short EPD).
This pathway is for candidates that meet the entry requirements and can demonstrate all the Standards with either babies, toddlers or young children, but not all three age groups, or for candidates that need to gain additional theoretical knowledge. Following an assessment of your skills and experience a programme will be ‘personalised’ to enable you to ‘top-up’ your knowledge, understanding and skills so that you can meet the EYP Standards.
The fifteen-month part-time extended professional development pathway including 6½ days validation over three months (Long EPD).
The Long EPD pathway is for candidates that either have a Level 5 qualification such as an Early Years Sector Endorsed Foundation Degree, or those who require longer placements or training to meet the knowledge and experience requirements. Candidates with Level 5 qualifications will need to complete modules for an additional 60 CATS points at honours level. Following an assessment of your skills and experience a programme will be ‘personalised’ to enable you to ‘top- up’ your knowledge, understanding and skills so that you can meet the EYP Standards.
The full training pathway lasting twelve months, full-time, including 6½ days validation over three months.
