November SEW Poster
SEW Number 2: 16 November 2009
The Faculty hosted Get Employed in the IT and Creative Industry, the second event in the current Student Enterprise Workshop (SEW) series on Monday 16 November 2009 in the Henry Thomas Room. The event was opened by the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Dominic Palmer-Brown, who thanked the three speakers and all the colleagues who made the event possible, and welcomed all the students and staff who attended the event. He hoped all the students there would enjoy the event and make the most of the opportunity to hear about the world of working in IT.
The first presenter of the evening was Abdul Hamid (left) who graduated from MSc Internet Applications Development in 2004. Abdul gave a presentation entitled "How to tick all the boxes", the presentation was embedded with three real life projects he has been involved with in the past including an iPhone game project and two Muslim Youth Web projects.
The second speaker was Julianne Brandt who worked as a Graphic Designer for a property firm before she became freelance and started her own company Graphic Outlines Ltd. She demonstrated a few static art design projects she has been involved with.
The third speaker was Giuseppe Pisaniello who is a BSc Multimedia Systems graduate. Giuseppe currently works for BioMed Central Ltd as Advertising Traffic Manager and he is also setting up his own company. He gave a presentation entitled "Keep it Simple" with a live project demonstration including his work for www.footballitaliano.org/ and www.onlinetutorial.it/ Finally all three speakers (pictured right and below) were invited back to the stage and answered questions from the floor.
The evening closed with Yanguo announcing the date and title of the next SEW event on Wed 9 December 2009 "How to Build an IT Career in the Finance Industry." It's worth noting that many of the fifty or so students who attended stayed for half an hour chatting to the three speakers after the end of event. The feedback from students was very positive.
