FOC Virtual Employability Training for the REAL World of Work October 2011 SEW

On 18 October, the Faculty hosted its 17th Student Enterprise Workshop. Prof Dominic Palmer-Brown, Dean of FoC, opened the series for Autumn Semester. Alan Stuart and Dr Yanguo Jing introduced the concept and vision of the FOC Virtual Business Environment. This exciting initiative, closely linked to new WRL and the work placement modules will offer an innovative mechanism for managing and delivering real projects to external business and industry while offering dynamic and vital employability skills training on these accredited modules.
Working within the Faculty, students will actively lead the development and direction of the 'business' and it will look to encourage enterprise and business development within the student pool. Students who attended the talk were very inspired and showed great enthusiasm for the idea - more so when they were informed that rather than piloting the initiative with a small (no-risk) start-up - the virtual business has as its first 'client' - News International!
