Research Centres and Groups
- Centre for Communications Technology
The goal of the Centre is to develop low-cost, low-power semiconductor building blocks that can be integrated into a wide range of digital devices and operate at very high data rates.
Director: Dr Bal S. Virdee
- Intelligent Systems Research Centre
The intelligent systems research group was formed in 1999 and was established to research and develop applications for intelligent and adaptive systems. These include fuzzy logic, neural networks, genetic algorithms and AI techniques.
Director: Professor Hassan Kazemian
- Knowledge Management Research Centre
The Knowledge Management Research Centre (KMRC) conducts research into fundamental research questions related to mapping, codifying, extracting, and utilising various forms of knowledge in organisations, and developing innovative methods, models and tools to help UK enterprises sustain their core knowledge-based competencies and competitiveness in the knowledge economy.
Director: Professor Farhi Marir
- Laboratory of Applied Computer Science and Technology (LACOST)
Applied computer science is a definition for a wide and at the same time rigorous research area. It is based on the applications of methods of computer science for the solution of theoretical and practical problems of the 21st century.
Director: Professor Igor Schagaev
- Statistics, Operational Research and Mathematics Research Centre (STORM)
STORM was formerly the lead site in developing the Royal Statistical Society's GLIM package, which was the first tool that made modern statistical modelling possible. STORM now hosts the Generalised Additive Models for Location, Scale and Shape (GAMLSS) suite of programmes.
Director: Professor Bob Gilchrist
