- Applications of AI to wireless/wired networks, fixed and mobile technologies in hybrid access networks, cross-layer architecture and sub-protocols, mobile IP, TCP performance, wired (ATM) and wireless. technology, QoS and QoE, IT security, video streaming & distribution.
- Neural network approaches to data mining, pattern recognition and natural language processing; cognitive science and user modelling; virtual learning environments; and the modal learning approach to neural computing.
- Build a centralised management system that encapsulates the core aspects of the business, accommodates the raising requirements of business growth, enables the expansion of operations into European markets and creates a stable platform to which advanced business modules can be added.
- Applications of intelligent systems techniques to bioinformatics. Use of neural networks to predict and analyse membrane proteins in the proteome.
- Fractal computing methods for information security, covert communications, data mining and bioinformatics.
- Geospatial interpolation of accumulated temperature using ensembles of artificial neural networks. Use of ensembles of neural nets to investigate the effectiveness of combining optimised nets in interpolating measures of accumulated temperature.
- User modelling and intelligent agents in user interface design. 2. Advanced mobile technology and its applications (i.e. in-door positioning, pervasive computing). 3. Advanced Web technology and its applications (i.e. e-commerce, CMS, semantic Web).
- Database performance, parallel distributed systems, and agent based approach for building data warehousing.
- Applications of intelligent systems techniques to semantic web, web services, linguistic thesaurus, WordNet., e-commerce, web software architectures and web applications.
- Geographical Information Systems (GIS) generalization, Location-Based Service (LBS), mobile computing.
- Genetic algorithms, genetic programming and other techniques for evolutionary computation and adaptive search; also neural computation and numerical modelling.
- Data and knowledge representation and modelling, including the use of mature techniques in new contexts (such as Petri nets and data flow diagrams, Karnaugh maps for decision making, and JSP for modelling user interaction).
- Fostering multi and visual literacies in online collaborative learning environments. Research into how student-created multimedia can be used for peer teaching and learning.
- Application of data mining in the telemonitoring and control of wastewater treatment plants. A neural network model of the hydrodynamical flow in the river Medway estuary and its confluence with the river Thames.

- Knowledge Transfer Partnership. Development of software package for IT security and network protection for small businesses; company: LifelineIT.
- The centre has just been awarded an Emerald - Standard grant to develop an intelligent graphical user interface software suit that will predict and analyze membrane protein classifying into Alpha helix and Beta barrel for commercialisation purposes.
- Knowledge Transfer Partnerships fund. Ask Electronics Ltd. To develop a host of bespoke e-business solutions coupled with a comprehensive marketing strategy addressing brand development, growth and online sales.
- The centre was awarded a grant from the Development Fund to research into the applications of artificial intelligence techniques to membrane protein.
- The centre obtained an Emerald (mini) pre-commercialisation fund for patent and marketing of an integrated membrane protein prediction and analysis for commercialisation purposes.
- The centre obtained an EPSRC grant for a research entitled: A fuzzy approach to video transmission over Bluetooth. The overall aim of the project is concerned with transmission of digital video signal over Bluetooth wireless.
- Knowledge Transfer Partnerships fund. Essex Disabled People's Association (EDPA) Agency. To develop 'Intelligent Keyboard' software, capable of detecting a person's disability and correcting accordingly to help disabled users to use standard software.
- The centre obtained Emerald standard pre-commercialisation fund for a research entitled: A prototype for real-time video transmission over Bluetooth wireless using intelligent systems. The overall aim of the project will be concerned with building a working model for real-time transmission of digital video over Bluetooth wireless providing image quality.
- Knowledge Transfer Partnerships fund. Title: Universal Digital Content and Communications Suite, The aim of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership project is to develop and build the technology platform and associated systems and products to create a universal digital content and communications suite for a UK company called, Underscore Ltd.
- Knowledge Transfer Partnerships fund. Working with Rankhour Limited. Rankhour Ltd and LondonMet is to build a centralised management system ('OMS') that encapsulates the core aspects of the business, accommodates the arising requirements of business growth, enables the expansion of operations into European markets and creates a stable platform to which advanced business modules can be added.
- The centre obtained the Royal Society research grant in the applications of intelligent systems to food engineering. This is a collaborate work between the Intelligent Systems Research Centre at London Metropolitan University and the Sugar Research Group at Instituto Superior Politécnico "José Antonio Echeverría" in Cuba.
- Knowledge Transfer Partnerships grant, to develop a technology platform incorporating a database of re-usable web-enabled applications that can be integrated, in any combination, to enhance and complement static web content.
- The Centre obtained Emerald - pre-commercialisation grant, to advance and market the eCourse system.
- Knowledge Transfer Partnerships: To develop and implement a comprehensive marketing strategy addressing brand development and growth in traditional and online sales, coupled with the development and implementation of a host of bespoke e-business solution; Ask Direct Ltd.
- Knowledge Transfer Partnerships: To develop an intelligent image processing system allowing the remote authentication and invigilation of examination candidates using neural network and image processing technologies; Healthcare Company Ltd.
- The Centre has obtained several Knowledge Connect Projects, such as:
- An embedded video training platform for the "Good Vibes" gym. Development of a novel on-line video publication content management system.
- Developing a dynamic and platform independent health monitoring mobile system.
- "Development of a software training strategy" for Sprintware, funded by LDA.
