Topics of Interest

  • Applications of artificial intelligence in bioinformatics. Intelligent Systems Research Centre has a comprehensive research experience in applications of artificial intelligence to membrane protein, in particular transmembrane protein and signal peptide. The Centre would welcome PhD applicants who are interested in any area of AI and protein sequences.

  • Applications of artificial intelligence to communication security. Intelligent Systems Research Centre has an extensive knowledge of this area. The Centre is currently engaged in applying artificial intelligence to prevent probe request Denial of Service attacks. The Centre would welcome PhD student applicants who are interested in any area of artificial intelligence applications to WiFi, wireless, wired, network and Internet security.

  • Application of Neural Network and genetic algorithm in intrusion detection for shared network. Intelligent Systems Research Centre has in depth knowledge on how to assess the possibility of improving the muti-agent based intrusion detection system to identify the pattern for future threats. The Centre would welcome PhD. applicants who are interested in applying Neural Network algorithms in the area of intrusion system.

  • Application of neural network and Natural Language Processing (NLP) to biometric authentication. Intelligent Systems Research Centre has a very good research track record in building frameworks (e.g. Adaptive Language Modelling Intermediate Layer framework) to the typing streams analysis to identifying patterns and generating ID for each user.

  • Applications of artificial intelligence on mobile applications. The Centre is currently engaged in research of applying artificial intelligence to personalize museum visit using mobile devices, and personalize learning and teaching using mobile devices/tablets. The Centre would welcome PhD student applicants who are interested in any area of artificial intelligence applications to mobile computing smart-phone applications, and mobile learning.

  • Study the impact of social network and user behaviour on e-commerce and e-business. The Centre is currently engaged in research of applying artificial intelligence to model user profile and user behaviour on the on social networks in order to optimize e-commerce and e-business strategy and maximize digital conversion. The Centre would welcome PhD student applicants who are interested in any area of artificial intelligence applications to digital marketing, e-commerce/m-commerce and e-business/m-commerce.

  • The application of 3D modelling and design techniques and/or tools to foster learning through VLEs. Applying video streaming as a methodological approach to virtual learning. Mobile learning and animation practice. Intelligent Systems Research Centre has a very good research background in e-leaning.

  • Semantic Disambiguation of Keyword Phrases for Web Search Engine Optimisation. Applications of NLP to Search Engine optimization for Web Applications. Intelligent Systems Research Centre is currently engaged in applying NLP methods of semantic disambiguation of search phrases on the Web using WordNet thesaurus for the purpose of user profiling. The Centre would welcome PhD student applicants who are interested in any area of NLP and semantic technologies to the Web.

  • Semantic Parsing of Phrase Grammars. Application of Semantic Parsing Methods to Phrase Structures specified using different Phrase Grammars - logical, functional, etc. Intelligent Systems Research Centre is currently engaged in applying methods of parsing, classification and disambiguation for building intelligent applications which require semantic technologies. The Centre would welcome PhD student applicants who are interested in any area of Computer Science and semantic technologies.

  • Terminology Classification for the Semantic Web. Combining ontological modelling and linguistic data processing for the purpose of machine learning on the Web. Intelligent Systems Research Centre is currently engaged in applying AI and NLP methods for building intelligent Web and mobile applications. The Centre would welcome PhD student applicants who are interested in any area of AI and semantic technologies applied to the Web and/or the mobile Web.

  • Computational Fluid Mechanics, particularly in the numerical modelling of tidal motions and wave-current interactions in coastal waters. Intelligent Systems Research Centre has a good knowledge of applications of AI to this area.

  • Global optimisation methods for multifactor and complex financial portfolio selection and management. Intelligent Systems Research Centre has a good research track record in applications of AI to financial systems.
