The following is a selection of sites on the topic which you might find useful. • Teaching at Stanford
A comprehensive on-line handbook for teaching staff at Stanford University, USA. Has a good account on lecturing as well as many other topics on teaching and learning.
  • Giving effective lectures
Brief notes on lecturing from Kalamazoo College, USA.
  • Effective Presentations
The emphasis of this site is on presentations generally, but has many useful pointers on this aspect of lecturing in higher education. Includes a discussion on the use of audio-visual aids and posters (both done as on-line tutorials). The latter should be very useful for those of us who wish to make a poster presentation at a conference! Also has a number of links to other useful sites on presentations.
  • The Art of Communicating Effectively
There is no presumption here to "teach you" how to be a great presenter. "Many of you visiting this section have been communicating effectively for years. Please consider this a refresher. We have tried to assemble many tips on presentations, in the hopes that some will trigger old knowledge, others may be new to you." Tips on presentations from a company which markets audio-visual equipment.
