200th Anniversary of British Parliament's abolition of the Atlantic Slave Trade
On March 25 1807, a Parliamentary Bill was finally passed to abolish the tragic traffic in human bodies that was the Atlantic Slave Trade. That day was an important milestone on the long road to the end of slavery itself, which was legislated in the British Empire by the Act of 1833. In Liverpool, Hull, Bristol and London, events are being planned for 2007 to pay tribute to the victims of the Slave Trade and those who fought against it.
Key to the Caribbean Studies Centre's plans to mark this historic moment will be hosting the UK Society for Caribbean Studies Annual Conference, 4-6 July, 2007.
