News & Events - CSA

From May 2002 to May 2003, Caribbean Studies Centre Director Professor Jean Stubbs was President of the regional-based Caribbean Studies Association, and the Centre oversaw arrangements for the 2003 CSA Conference:

28th Annual Conference of the Caribbean Studies Association

Belize, 26-31 May 2003

El Gran Caribe: Raices y Rutas
The Greater Caribbean: Roots and Routes
Le Grand Cara?be: Racines at Routes

The 28th meeting of the Caribbean Studies Association sought to embrace the past, present and future of the Greater Caribbean, broadening the cast of its intellectual net to build bridges across the sub-regional divides.

Special themes for 2003 included:

  • 20th century Pan-Caribbean Migration in the form of 'Tracing Connections';
  • The Hispanic insular and circum-Caribbean.

Our aim was also to include Caribbean initiatives beyond CSA traditional strengths in the social sciences and humanities, encouraging round tables, panels, and individual papers on such areas as the physical and biological sciences, law, technology, tourism, ecology, agriculture and fishing.
