“I am from Dhaka, Bangladesh where I studied Business Administration with a Marketing major. I was working for a software company there as a marketing researcher. I also had a brief foray at a multinational organisation. Just before coming here, I was offered the position of International Marketing Executive in Square Pharmaceutical Limited, the leading pharmaceutical company in Bangladesh. I had planned to do an MBA in order to foster my career as a strategic move, as well as to strengthen my international understanding. I decided to choose London because of the corporate importance of the city itself. My London Met MBA experience has truly been a transformational one. The opportunity to study business at the centre of one of the world’s truly cosmopolitan business cities is something unparalleled.

The MBA itself is tough, but it is also very engaging. I wanted to understand more about cross-cultural management and global financial markets, a gap in my knowledge that I had always wanted to fill. The programme’s enunciation on Global Strategic Business provided me with just the insight I needed. Teaching methods are totally interactive and we are not entirely classroom based. Residential weekends, workshops, seminars and industrial visits comprise a significant part of the MBA. Next year, we are attending a symposium taking place at the EU parliament in Brussels. Because of the location of the University’s campuses, I was able to have a balance between the vibrant social life of north London and the corporate flair of the City. A common trait among MBA students is that they have uncommon experience, making interaction with our ‘Learning Support Group’ the most intriguing. My Learning Support Group comprised of an IT consultant, a performing artist, and an accountant to a medical doctor, for example.

I live in the University’s halls of residence located in north London and also am working as one of the resident wardens there, which has been an interesting experience. I also worked at the postgraduate admissions office as student assistant and as student adviser in the accommodation office during the busy summertime period. I am a registered external invigilator with the exams and conferment office at the city. However, it is serving as an amanuensis (dyslexic and disabled student support staff) with London Met that has given me the most invaluable personal experience so far.

One of the opportunities that the London Met MBA has given me is to look at the bigger picture; or take a more international view. After finishing my MBA, I am looking forward to working in the software industry in Bangladesh. There is no dearth of technical potential over there, but often lacking is the international business perspective to set things up – so the MBA will help me achieve this goal. I believe I will be able to take the skills and insight I need with me – to make things happen.”
