Lined Hand Pleated Curtains (short course)
Why study this course?
This comprehensive and professional course for those with basic sewing machine knowledge will teach you all the skills necessary to produce your own professional lined curtains, and how to tackle both machine and hand-pleated headings. This is just one of several creative sewing and upholstery classes run by London Met's art school.
Whether you want to be able to create bespoke curtains for your home, save money or take your career in a new direction, this course will cover all the basics of curtain making. You'll explore the many dimensions of making up a lined curtain including measuring and estimating, choosing suitable fabrics and linings, effective cutting, pattern matching and the hand stitches required to complete this project. You will leave with a respectable-sized sample that encompasses a variety of skills and relevant notes, and the confidence to make your own curtains.
The course will cover:
- suitable fabrics
- measuring and estimating
- cutting skills
- pattern matching
- sample lined curtain with hand pleated heading
This course is suitable for beginners or those with some basic furnishing knowledge but little experience. It is aimed at those wishing to complete a window treatment for their own use or those wanting to gain skills for business.
Participants should be able to use a domestic sewing machine (you could book on to our Introduction to the Sewing Machine course if needed).
You may wish to continue on to more advanced window treatments or take on new projects (for example roman blinds, loose covers and cushions). We have plenty of other interior furnishing courses on offer.
