Refresher Course for International Teachers of English
About this course
- This course is suitable for teachers of English who are non-native speakers, currently working in either state or private education.
- This course runs over two weeks consisting of 15 hours per week, including input sessions & discussion groups, classroom observations, self-study tasks and optional guided teaching practice.
- It is intended, above all else, to be of real practical use to teachers so that they will return to teaching in their country with many new ideas and renewed enthusiasm.
- It will suit teachers who are looking to refresh and extend their skills, raise their awareness of current English teaching practice and experience the lively atmosphere of a busy languages department in a London university.
Course Content
The course content is partly negotiated at the beginning of the first week to tailor the course to participants' needs and wishes. A typical course could include:
- How to make the best use of course books and other resouce material
- Practical communicative language teaching skills
- Tips for teaching in monolingual classrooms
- Integrating technology into the classroom
- How to use the phonetic chart and improve pronunciation teaching
- Teaching reading, listening, speaking and writing
- Vocabulary and grammar teaching techniques
- Classroom management
- Improving awareness of language and grammar
- Working with large classes
- A look at contemporary approaches to language learning
- Professional development to make the most of your career
- Observations of English classes at the University
- Guided self-study
Outside class
The sessions are interactive and all participants are encouraged to take part and share good practice from their own teaching.
