Centre for Academic Professional Development (CAPD)
The Centre for Academic Professional Development (CAPD) is an academic unit based in the Human Resources Department and located at the Learning Centre, North Campus and Jewry Street, City Campus.
It supports the University's staff and students through the promotion of good practice, innovation and scholarship in learning, teaching and curriculum development. This is achieved through:
- Workshops and conferences that facilitate the exchange of good practice
- Courses and other staff development activities aimed at both new and experienced teaching staff
- An inhouse journal, Investigations, devoted to the dissemination of good practice, scholarship and research in learning, teaching and curriculum development.
- The Teaching and Learning Technology Centre (TLTC) which promotes and supports the effective use of learning technologies in teaching and learning.
- The Learning Development Unit, a student focused centre which provides study skills support at 1-1, group and module level.
CAPD staff are available to work on collaborative activities in a number of ways, including assistance with/consultancy for:
- the implementation and monitoring of activity in support of the Learning and Teaching Strategy
- the use of learning technology and development of electronic learning materials
- professional development activities and events (e.g. workshops and seminars on teaching and learning issues)
- academic staff induction
- the development of personal academic tutorial systems
- peer observation of teaching
- programme review and validation
- curriculum development projects
- external quality reviews
- colleagues conducting educational research in their subject area
- mentoring
- continuing professional development for part-time staff
