The Emerald Fund
A new £1 million Emerald Pre-Commercial Fund, developed by a consortium of eight London Universities and led by London Metropolitan University, has been established to test the commercial viability of ideas coming out of research.By bridging the gap between University research and commercialisation, the fund, which was made possible by a £800k contribution from the LDA (London Development Agency), promises to identify ideas that are commercially viable and have the potential to be the high tech companies of the future. The two levels of fund available, the Emerald 'mini grant' (of up to £10k) and standard grant (of up to £40k) represent the considerable commitment of these eight universities to supporting spin-out companies.
