The Brussels Office
The role of the Brussels office is to raise the profile of the University in the EU and to help position it at the leading edge of European Higher Education. Its principal function is to ensure that University strategy is attuned to developments in the Bologna Process, the Lisbon Agenda, the European social model and the European Research Area.
The office
- Advises senior management
- Supports internal agencies
- Assists researchers and course directors
Since 2002, it has:
- Established good lines of communication between University staff and key players in the EU institutions, Brussels-based UK agencies, NGOs
- Gathered early intelligence regarding legislative developments in policy areas relevant to Higher Education — curriculum, mobility, research, employment, enterprise, external relations, regional development and the internal market
- Been the only UK university to conduct a consistent lobby of the European Commission, the Council of Ministers and the European Parliament
The Brussels office works closely with the European University Association and Universities UK.
