Have you been away from the architecture profession for a career break or because of unemployment and wish to re-build your skills to return to practice? We are offering a refresher course for architects wishing to return to practice in Autumn 2010. The course will build on the feedback received from the Return to Practice courses in 2008 and 2009and 2010.

"Far exceeded my expectations in terms of quantity and quality of speakers and sheer breadth of scope."

“Besides being great cpd, I learned a lot from the other participants’ experiences. The course gave me a boost of confidence and fresh enthusiasm for the profession.”

The four-day programme includes practice visits, site tours , social events and seminars. The course will cover context and confidence-building; planning, procurement and design; construction; CDM; site visits; specialist seminars and practice management.

Aim:

  • To give architects business and other skills to boost their confidence for a return to the profession
  • To look at the current state of the profession, especially within the larger context of the construction industry
  • To investigate the issues involved in setting up a practice
  • To examine and interrogate alternative ways of practice
  • To provide the competence that employers are seeking and to give candidates and employers confidence
  • To update returners on statutory, contractual and technical issues

Advice on such issues as CPD and lifelong learning and support will also be offered for up to 12 months.
Participants will be welcome to attend all open lectures and seminars at London Met’s Faculty of Architecture and Spatial Design during this period.

Please note that this course is not intended to be a replacement for an architectural qualification and will in no way allow previously unqualified people to enter the profession.
