Professional and Career Development Loan

The Professional and Career Development Loan is a loan offered by The Co-operative Bank to help you pay for a professional/work-related course that lasts up to two years (or three years if it includes a year of work experience).

The government pays the interest while you study and for one month after you leave your course.

You may be able to borrow between £300 and £10,000.

To apply you must:

  • be 18 or over
  • have been living in the UK for at least three years before your course starts
  • plan to work in the UK, European Union or European Economic Area after the course

You can't get Professional and Career Development Loans for first full-time degrees.

Repaying the loan

You usually start repaying the loan one month after you leave your course.

How to apply

You can order an application pack by calling the National Careers Service on 0800 100 900.

You should apply three months before your course starts.
