Illustration - BA (Hons) - Portfolio Guidelines
The purpose of the portfolio interview is to try and assess each student’s potential and ability to benefit from the course. This will take the form of a discussion around the applicant’s range of interests and focus on their portfolio of work. The interview is a two-way process: the interviewer wants to see what skills and interests the applicant has, so it is important to spend some time preparing your portfolio.
You should include observational drawing and/or life drawing, notebooks/sketchbooks showing developmental work and a series of projects that demonstrate your interest in the discipline of illustration, using painting, drawing, collage, photography, 3D, mixed media etc. Again, we strongly advise bringing photographs of 3D work rather than the objects, unless they are small and can be transported without being damaged. Be reasonably selective in what you bring - remember that we will be basing our decision significantly on the contents and presentation of your portfolio. A recent sample of written work must also be included.
