Alternatives to Halls

If you don't fancy living in a hall of residence take a look at the options below.

Private Rented Accommodation

The majority of London Metropolitan University students live in private rented accommodation (renting a room in a house or flat from a landlord or estate agent). Often students choose this type of accommodation when they have been at the University for a year and made friends that they want to live with. However, some first year students, those with families and mature students also often choose this option.

We strongly recommend that you do not pay a deposit for private rented accommodation before you view the property. If you live a long way from London, we suggest booking short-term accommodation in London initially, then look at the properties while you are here.

Bed & Breakfasts / Hotels and Homestay are good short-term accommodation options. Click here for further information.

The Netletlondonmet web site has lots of information about looking for private rented accommodation including adverts from landlords, estate agents and other London Met students looking for others to share with.

Hostels

Hostels are like Halls of Residences, but run independently from universities or colleges. For a comprehensive list of Hostels in London, go to Hostel List. They are often run by religious organisations and can be great places to meet a variety of students.

Homestay

Homestay means staying in the home of a British family. It is popular with international students new to London and can be a great way to improve your English language skills and learn about British culture. Homestay can be easily to booked from overseas, even at short notice. Further information and links to the two agencies we advertise can be found here
