The area of Shoreditch is an ancient settlement along Old Street and Shoreditch High Street, which dates from Roman times. It is thought that Kingsland Road is one of the oldest roads in England, following the line of Ermine Street, the Roman road which connected London to Lincoln and York. The area experienced huge growth between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries and was home to a wide variety of small manufacturing and trading businesses. In recent years Shoreditch has regenerated itself and is now a popular and vibrant area.

- Digital Media Innovation Centre Accelerator
- Metro New Media
- IT Learning Exchange
- Learning Technology Research Institute
Shoreditch differs from other University Buildings in 3 key respects:
- It is devoted to work in ICT and Multimedia
- Its clients are businesses and schools rather than undergraduates/postgraduates
- In addition to the University units, the building houses early stage ICT and digital media companies in Accelerator - the business incubator.
