Student ambassadors

Student ambassadors work with our outreach teams to lead and support the delivery of a variety of educational activities with people of all ages. We have programmes and activities tailored for students in Year 5 up to mature learners. Our student ambassadors also represent the University at open days, UCAS fairs and other public events.

We also offer a number of bespoke student talks, workshops and mentoring that give school/college students an insight into the day-to-day academic and social life of university students, as well as promoting student aspiration, achievement and progression into higher education. All of our ambassadors are trained in child protection and are Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checked before they can work with students under the age of 18 or with vulnerable adults.

Our ambassadors share their experiences of what it's like to study at university with young people, prospective students, families and teachers in a number of ways:

Higher education workshops

Student ambassadors talk about their progression to higher education and the challenges associated with this. They hold talks on topics such as:

  • why go to university?
  • choosing the right university / course
  • the importance of GCSEs
  • student life
  • mini subject workshops
  • the UCAS application process
  • study skills
  • writing a personal statement
  • student finance and budgeting

The Schools and Colleges Mentoring Programme

A select group of student ambassadors are trained to deliver peer mentoring sessions at your school or college. Sessions include revision techniques, planning your higher education (HE) journey, study skills, subject specific mentoring and much more.

Should you require a student ambassador to visit your institution or should you wish to send a group of your students to visit one of our campuses for the activities listed above, please contact:
