London Metropolitan University is one of the foremost providers of undergraduate, postgraduate, professional and vocational education and training in Britain. Our ten departments offer 485 courses covering a wide range of subjects.
With over 34,000 students London Met is the capital's largest unitary university. Our diverse student body includes nearly 8,000 international students from 155 countries. They are supported throughout their studies by 2,400 academic and non-academic staff.
Formed in 2002 following the merger between London Guildhall University and The University of North London, London Met brings together over 150 years' experience of providing quality education. The University is committed to social justice, equal opportunities and community involvement, and provides excellent educational and knowledge transfer services enabling students to achieve their potential.
Recognised Quality
- The UK Higher Education Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), which reviews all UK universities, awarded London Met its highest quality rating for the academic standards of the University's taught courses -'broad confidence'.
- The QAA also awarded its 'broad confidence' rating for London Met's collaborative teaching and validation arrangements with partners in the UK and overseas. Our partners include Croydon College, Fachochschule Munchen (Munich, Germany), Universidad de Duesto (Bilbao, Spain) and Universit? de Savoie (France).

- London Met is only the second university in the UK to be accredited as an institution of higher education in the United States. The US Middle States Commission on Higher Education, whose other accredited member universities include Pace University, Pennsylvania State University, Columbia University and Cornell University, carried out the review and awarded accreditation.
- London Met is the only UK university to have successfully undergone a European University Association evaluation of its strategic planning, governance and internal quality culture.
- London Met has two National Teaching Fellows and three National Centres of Excellence in Teaching and Learning, awarded by the HE Academy, they are:
- Centre of Excellence in Reusable Learning Objects, in partnership with Cambridge University and Nottingham University
- Centre of Excellence in Scientific Literacy, in partnership with Liverpool Hope University and Aston University.
- Centre of Excellence in Learning in Higher Education, in partnership with Reading University and Manchester University.
- London Met is a Centre of Excellence for Purchasing and Logistics, awarded by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.
- London Met's Student Services Department has received the Matrix Excellence Award, one of 12 winners, and the only Higher Education institution.
- Two London Met alumni won awards at the 2008 British Female Inventor and Innovator of the Year Awards.
- Our architecture students have been honoured at the Royal Institute of British Architects president's awards for three years running.
World Class Facilities
Located in the heart of the capital, London Met's North and City campuses currently occupy over 20 buildings. London Met is committed to investing in resources and students from every department benefit from use of our superb facilities.
- A £30 million Science Centre at North Campus, was opened recently, offering cutting-edge teaching and research facilities that are unparalleled in scale and complexity anywhere in Europe. This environmentally friendly building contains the 'SuperLab', designed to accommodate more than 280 students. It houses cutting-edge technical and analytical equipment, audio-visual and online technology.
- At the North Campus, the stunning Graduate Centre, designed by world-renowned 'Ground Zero' architect Daniel Libeskind, offers a contemporary environment for postgraduate students and researchers.
- Our Goulston Street building is home to the Department of Law, Governance and International Relations and includes its very own fully equipped mock courtroom.
- The Technology Tower at Holloway Road is the University's newest IT facility equipped with 700 computers.
- London Met has seven libraries across both campuses. These include The Women's Library, which houses the most extensive collection of women's history in the UK and the TUC Library Collection, which contains material collected from unions, pressure groups and campaign movements since the end of the 19th century.
- London Met's sports facilities are of international standard and have been listed in the 2012 London Olympics Pre-Games Training Guide for basketball and fencing. There are also two fitness gyms, one at each campus, providing a selection of cardiovascular, resistance and free weights.
- London Met can also boast a state-of-the-art flight simulator in the Centre for Civil Aviation.
- London Met is one of only a few Universities in the UK to offer direct use of Bloomberg data, information and analytics. Access is through a suite of Bloomberg terminals in a dedicated simulated dealing room in the Business School and also via our Library.
- Students are also able to enjoy London Met's award-winning social facilities, including the Rocket Complex and the Hub, which are often listed in Time Out magazine.
- There are two nurseries available for students who are looking after young children whilst they study.

Respected research:
Our 11 research institutes and 22 research centres provide services to external clients and organisations within London's communities, businesses, industry and public bodies, providing invaluable real-world experience for students.
- Research of regional, national or international excellence by the University has been recognised by the Higher Education Funding Council for England in American Studies; Education; Business and Management; Politics and International Studies; Cultural and Media Studies.
- Research institutes are large, semi-autonomous units, each of which pursues thematically related academic and policy research in their chosen area. Several of the Institutes are multidisciplinary, related disciplines being brought together to address major social, scientific, technological or policy-related issues in a vibrant and challenging intellectual environment.
- There are a number of research centres and units embedded within academic departments and research institutes across the University. These centres and units exist to promote the research activities of members of staff working in areas of strategic importance for London Metropolitan University. They will normally have a direct relevance to postgraduate and undergraduate taught provision as well as contributing to the research environment within which our research degree students work.
Sporting success
London Met is the number one university for sport in London. Our sporting facilities and reputation are second to none. In the 2007/8 academic year alone London Met topped the British Universities Colleges Sports league tables in Basketball, Tennis, Table Tennis, Badminton, Netball and Combat Sports.
At the end of the 2007/8 season British University and Colleges Sport (BUCS) voted London Met as the second most improved sporting institution in the country.
